Attaching a visual mark to harassers' profile name (or IP address, when applicable) might deter some of individuals from using Wikipedia as an outlet for their malevolence. In the old schools the teacher would (so I've read) make "bad pupils" wear a hat with donkey ears and stand in a corner for all other pupils to see. While I find this a terrible practice in a classroom, I do think that singling out harassers visually, for all to see, might be an alley to explore. If a profile is repeatedly reported for bad behaviour/harassment, the profile name might from then on turn up on a purple (or red, or yellow, or... ) background every time that profile produces more text on Wikipedia. Wearing - and having to flaunt - the "badge of shameful conduct" in that way whenever one wants to speak up again on WP might be a consequence that would keep some profiles in their track. Maybe it would be advisable that for a profile name to get the purple background, it would have to have been reported by three or more other contributors.
