Grants:IdeaLab/Bookmarks with cross-references
What is the problem you're trying to solve?Edit
For research on a certain topic, it is often preferable to skim through many articles to decide which of them needs to be read in depth. Currently, I use the bookmarks on the browser, nesting folders and duplicating entries where necessary, a clearly inferior alternative to the cross-referencing capabilities of Wikipedia!
What is your solution?Edit
In addition to the simple list of articles, on each page, add an additional layer of wiki links (in addition to the ones already present), visible only to the one person, to connect related articles that have also been bookmarked.
- Yes! Bookmarking articles is something that would be very easy to do and would greatly improve Wikipedia. It would be even better if the user could make different categories of book marks (say "Biology paper" "Chemistry research") themselves. Lukejodonnell (talk) 17:52, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- This is without a doubt, the single biggest frustration I experience with Wikipedia currently. While I basically just add articles to my watchlist, which should be used for Editing, but because its button is ubiquitous and obvious on very page, a start versus the book creator tool, which was intended to solve the core of the problem outlined at the outset of this project, but simply a more refined, later iteration of initial research findings review.
There are other, 3rd party plugins or extensions for bookmarking etc, but there not natively built into the ui/experience.
The newest version of the mobile app, on iOS at least, solves this problem perfectly, w/the main interaction on any article content while browsing is the bookmarking icon, the only lacking additional feature would be the ability to organize collections, curate, and even let other users duplicate, edit, comment or contribute to collections sort of like Awesome-____-Lists on Github Repos do Vibrantmatter (talk) 19:55, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- The idea would be helpful to both editors and readers. Carrotkit (talk) 12:32, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Afaik the iOS app already has it. No clue why Wikipedia STILL doesn't have it...
Btw by this one would also attract new registered users. Fixuture (talk) 23:13, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
