The goal of this project is centralised training of volunteer trainers who will then embark on training others in the country. Training to include: Introduction to Wikipedia; Introduction to Kiwix, the offline Wikipedia reader; Troubleshooting; Using Wikipedia Wisely; Basics of Editing.
Project scope and list of activitiesEdit
- The scope of project is national. Thirty (30) selected librarians from colleges, universities and community libraries will be trained in a training-the-trainer (ToT) two-day workshop at ITOCA in Centurion, South Africa. This will be an intensive training provided throughout the two days. However it should be noted that these librarians will have also had two weeks of online communication from ITOCA trainers.
- The trained librarians are expected to deliver two-hour and/or one-day training on how to use Wikipedia and its offline reader software, at their local campus/institute and their local community wherever there is an opportunity.
- The two-day ToT workshop will help spread awareness of Wikipedia and its core principles, encourage students to use Wikipedia efficiently and well, and attract new contributors.
- Librarians are expected to use the provided materials to train others after the training and be ambassadors for Wikipedia. Like other Wikipedia ambassadors, they would not be expected to have all the answers, but rather to be contact points with training on how to get answers from the wider Wikipedia community.

Fit to strategyEdit
By conducting training our goal is that the participants will train others thereby increasing Wikipedia's visibility and its uptake.
- We believe that by conducting such kind of project we will increase attention and support of Wikimedia by the cascading effect where those trained will go and train others.
- These will influence students and other community members to not only use Wikimedia but also contribute.
- The training of the librarians ensures that there are always local trained experts who can be called on to help in further training or assist those in need technically.
Measures of successEdit
- Satisfaction of trainee-trainers from the central training, measured by a feedback survey. The survey would focus on the degree to which the trainees feel able to deliver training themselves..
- The main measure of success would be the number of training events held by the trainees in their respective institutions and communities. We will consider the project a success if at least 75% of the participants deliver at least one training event within three months of the end of the central training.
- Success will also be measured by getting feedback from those trained by the trained participants.
