I really like these logos, and if it weren't an encyclopedia, they would be a great contender. In my opinion, the concept presented is not appropriate for an encyclopedia.

That said, the concept is very well executed and is very clever with the use themed areas as part of the overall. The colours are well chosen, and I like the typefaces used.

The 5 pointed star may have paganistic or satanistic connotations however. Maybe not.

In all, a great entry, and if this doesn't get chosen, go use the idea at some other logo design comps. I'm sure it will be perfect for something!

I really like this concept. It's a really nifty design. I especially like the connectivity of the star, and I think this logo has a lot of potential. { MB | マイカル } 14:43, 18 Aug 2003 (UTC)

A nice design. The only question, how does it relate to the encylopedia? Maybe, enLIGHTement from the beautiful star? Drbug 07:30, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Looks like the most professional logo I have seen so far :0)

The problem I see with this is that the star could have some pagan meaning, and the wikipedia shouldn't su`pport religions (even if it is non-intentional). Aniways, I like this idea a lot

I really like the fact that the designer has some solid ideas on how the logo can be leveraged for a complete identity. It certainly is among the most well developed of the entries. Nice and clean. I don't know if this is relevent but it will be more expensive to reproduce in print because of the number of colors.

In terms of the image content, half of me likes the the constructivist/socialist feel of the star, the other half is ambivalent about the star as an image.

I'm not sure this logo is NPOV enough to represent the Wikipedia. I mean, I can't refrain myself from thinking about Che Guevara when I see it, and by extension to similar leftish movements/revolutions. Or else to the U.S. Army. Contradictory references, surely, but anyway references that might annoy some people, and we should avoid that. --FvdP 19:20, 28 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I agree this is the most professional one and kudos on illustrating multiple uses. But I now realize why I think it's too derivative... looks like the Olympic logo. Five colors... and I believe Atlanta Olympics used a star as well. Fuzheado 08:38, 29 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Really nice, but its too similar to the used for the mozilla project... The star makes me remenber the mozilla project, — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bisho (talk) 18:51, 30 August 2003 (UTC)Reply

I very much dislike this logo for the wikipedia. It is too similar to very highly familiar and political icons, including those of w:wicca, w:judaism, w:satanism, w:USA -- the black versions w:communism, w:socialism, w:solidarity, etc. Considering how less ubiquitous symbols come under far more scrutiny, I am surprised at the positive reaction to this one. While I am not big on simply attaching traditional meanings to symbols, I cannot pretend to be ignorant of the very real politics of these symbols and the meanings they do evoke. -Stevertigo 19:17, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

The correct reference for historical information on this symbol is w:Pentagram, I cannot believe all the uniformed nonsense written about it here. That said, the connotations still makes the image impossible, but it's very cute. Nixdorf —Preceding undated comment added 07:20, 1 September 2003 (UTC).Reply

It may be true that the pentagram has a few connotations, some of which are positive and some negative, but it's so with many of our symbols. If we see it as a star it may be part of the USA flag... or the Chinese flag. It may represent the vastness of the Universe. It may be seen as a Satanist symbol, or one of Communism or whatever. It may also be seen as a figure of perfection because of the golden proportion between some of the sides. Oh well, stars are pretty ubiquitous, and maybe that's why they have as many connotations all over the world... but I like the symbol because it's so well done and different views of the logo may be used for different parts of the Wikipedia.
