Points:

  • Black and white: this is a logo, not a pretty picture. You are going to be staring at it every time you read Wikipedia. I like the idea of the black and white, not too sharp logo, because it is both attractive and lasts longer. Some of the coloured pictures will get boring, don't you think.
  • Symbolism: you should see it yourself, symbolism should not be explained. However, on the larger version, if it is required, it should be noted that the strings of the web are made from binary 010010011111 pattern.
  • The spiral base is computer generated: I have equations for the shape.
  • The rest of the web is hand-drawn. I believe it is important, because much of the three-dimensional artwork and even two-dimensional ones are computer generated. They look too plastic to me, too easy to come up with, I reckon.
  • Simplicity: one centre to this image, one idea. No need for special effects and pretty colours.
  • The spiders are Wikipedians!
  • As you can see, the spirals go on forever outwards and hence, we are expanding, building more information into the encyclopaedia, which is the truth.
  • The text is the same as on the current Wikipedia logo.
  • Not quite transparent: no problem. If anyone expresses a wish, I'll give them transparency, larger versions, anything.
