Well... my picture may not be the best one, but I thought I would submit it anyway :-)
(and thanks to Alex Kluchikov, the ring and its colors are a bit inspired from his Really hot thing...)

I like that picture. w:User:LittleDan 17:54 5 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I do like the rendered Earth, but there should really be no text on top of it. The ring is OK, but it looks too much like a telephone cable to me. Also, if we use this, we need a transparent version.—Eloquence 21:47 5 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I did another render to add transparency, but it was harder than I thought :-/ and the only mean (that I know of) was to disable antialiasing and it makes the picture not so good. The glow is also brighter and I don't know why. I'll try to improve these things. About the telephone cable... well doesn't Internet pass through the telephone cables ? But if your prefer I can remove them :-) →SeeSchloß 10:15 6 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I dunno, it just isn't refined, it looks rough...plus is this really a logo or just and image you got somewhere?... would you consider this orginal. honestly this would not look good on a white T-shirt or on a cup. I mean common, it's Wikipedia! for gawed sake, it should be crazy fun, if ya know what I mean.

Well of course this is not an image « I got somewhere » ! and if you want to see the source code, just ask and I'll post it somewhere. Maybe it looks rough because I sized it down from 1600x1200 to 150x150, I'll try to find a mean to have both transparency and AA. About its originality, well I don't think the logo should be « crazy fun », but I'm not sure I know what ya mean... →SeeSchloß 14:28 6 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I do like the new version, but I think the telephone cable makes it look too much like a telephony company logo. And TCP/IP data does not usually pass through the types of elastic cords which are attached to telephone receivers, unless you are using an acoustic coupler. Not to mention that this completely leaves out the wireless crowd ;-). I do think that there should be something on the circle surrounding the Earth, but I don't think it should be a cable. I also think the bright spot on the bottom half of the Earth is not necessary -- it seems to emphasize that particular area (Western Europe and Africa).—Eloquence 00:12 7 Aug 2003 (UTC)

The bright spot is actually Antarctica, because the seas are semi-transparent. On bigger versions you can also see Australia in the Barents Sea. Knowing it, I believe I don't see the image like you : I actually never thought people would not see it as Antarctica... I'll erase it. For telephone cables, I agree Wikipedia is not a telephone company, but I have no idea of what I should put instead, not to make it look empty. Ok, it's my picture, I'll try to find something :-) →SeeSchloß 10:17 7 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I like the second variant of the logo (the no text logo) a lot. I agree that there should be something circling the image of the globe. Maybe instead of a telephone wire just have a generic blue curvy line :-). -- 212.229.115.84 16:01 7 Aug 2003 (BST)

OK, I did a new render with a line instead of the wire and no Antarctica, and I put it in place of the first version since it did not have transparency, etc. The colors are not the same but that's because I didn't use the same editor, I'll correct that later. → SeeSchloß 18:07 7 Aug 2003 (UTC)
The colours are the same, now.

I like picture #1. Maybe, there should be 7 periods instead of 6 to remove resemplance with David's star, maybe not. As for other options for the circling, it could be also DNA-like helix. Drbug 07:43, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Picture #1 is better. #2 is like a bracelet. --Menchi 08:50, 23 Aug 2003 (UTC)
