This is a proposed logo for Wikinews. It was drawn in Inkscape and should be re-drawn by someone with better knowledge of spline paths. Consider it a proof of concept.

The image uses the same color scheme as the Wikimedia logo, whose colors also appear (approximately) in the Commons logo. In addition to the colors, the red circle is a unifying visual element, and the use of blank space of (ideally) uniform width between the blue and green areas is similar to the Wikimedia logo.

Compare:

I guess the typeface isn't quite right and either the whole font should be a bit smaller, or at least the x-height should be smaller. What font was used for the other logos?

In case it isn't obvious already, the logo tries to convey the idea that there are ordinary users working on the news (three of them here, but clearly more in reality; let's just say more than two).

The proposed logo also scales well to small sizes:

128px
64px
32px
16px
(needs some manual tweaking)
