Harem slave Bagoas was a young man, Whose beauty was known far and wide. He was purchased as a slave By a wealthy jeweller named Hymenaeus. His wife was a kind woman, Who treated Bagoas with respect. She taught him how to read and write, And she helped him to develop his talents. Bagoas was grateful for her kindness, And he worked hard to please her. He became a skilled jeweler, And he was soon in high demand. One day, King Darius of Persia Passed through the city. He was so impressed by Bagoas's work That he decided to purchase him. Bagoas was taken to the palace, Where he became a favorite of the king. He was given a fine house and servants, And he was allowed to travel freely. Bagoas was happy in his new life, And he served the king faithfully. He was a valuable asset to the kingdom, And he was loved and respected by all who knew him. |
