Almeida - Cinn. - Nat.. T207 Brown backgrounds 1912 reverse Senor Rafael Almeida is one of the first two Cubans to operate in the big leagues. Almeida is considered the strongest hitter ever developed in Cuba. Almeida is of Portuguese descent and first came to this country as a member of the New Britain team of the Connecticut League. He was sold to Cincinnati and played there in 1911. His failure to report promptly in 1912 brought about his release to Birmingham but he will return to Cincinnati as he is playing a fine thrid base and hitting the ball hard in the Southern League. In 1911 Almeida batted .313 and fielded .890 for Cincinnati.
