Español: Cuenta la leyenda que hubo una vez una hermosa doncella llamada Huacca China que se enamoró de un joven guerrero. Un día el joven guerrero fue a luchar en una batalla y pasado algún tiempo la hermosa doncella recibió la mala noticia de que su joven amante había muerto. Tras la horrible noticia, Huacca China impregnada de tristeza fue al lugar donde ella y su amado se vieron por primera vez. La hermosa doncella sufría y lloraba cada día recordando a su amado. Un día, la doncella vio a través del espejo de mano que tenía, que un joven le estaba observando, y cuando el joven del espejo intentó acercarse, la doncella huyó de él y empezó a correr, pero en su intento por escapar soltó el espejo, este cayó y se rompió dando origen a una laguna, la misma que hoy es conocida como la Huacachina. Seguidamente los vestidos que le cubrían también cayeron, formando las dunas (cerros), los aretes que llevaba puesto se convirtieron en hermosos arboles que crecieron rápidamente protegiendo los alrededores del lago. Finalmente, ella se sumergió en la laguna que acababa de formarse y tomó la forma de una hermosa sirena.
English: Huacachina is a village built around a small oasis and surrounded by sand dunes in southwestern Peru. It is about five kilometers from the city of Ica in the Ica District of Ica Province. The oasis was introduced as a feature on the back of the 50 nuevo sol note in 1991. Huacachina has a permanent population of around 100 people, although it hosts many tens of thousands of tourists each year.
