Summary

Description Centre. Rue du Marché aux Poulets The "Grande Maison de Blanc" was a department store founded in 1864 by Mr. E. Lefebre where the Brussels bourgeoisie procured its articles of lingerie, hosiery and clothing. In 1896-97, the architect Oscar François erected a monumental building to show the importance of this business. The building subsequently lost its original purpose with significant front damage, the ground floor and first floor being completely disfigured. Between 2000 to 2007, a major renovation has been done and shows again the beautiful Art Nouveau decoration from Privat Livemont.
