The aim of the contest is to ask the general public —readers and users of Wikipedia, photographers, hobbyists, etc.— to take pictures of cultural heritage monuments and upload them to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

How to participate

  • Search for a Monument: Identify a monument in your area that is listed as national or cultural heritage. Make sure it is on the list of landmarks, and don't forget to write down the monument's ID.
  • To take pictures: Take high-quality pictures of the monuments from different angles. You can submit with multiple pictures; even if the picture doesn't win a prize, it can still be used on Wikipedia!
  • You do not have an account at Wikimedia Commons Until now?Create one - It only takes a few moments! And make sure your email address is confirmed.
  • Writing down the informations: Write down the monument's name and identification number, as well as a brief description and the date the images were taken.
  • Upload pictures to Wikimedia Commons: Sign up or login to Wikimedia Commons Upload your photos. Make sure to include the monument ID in the description.

He has also participated in various international photography events, receiving praise and recognition for his works that highlight heritage, especially equestrian themes, and has been published in renowned international photography magazines and websites. |- |   | Dahbia Abbou | A photographer and researcher in historical architecture with a deep appreciation for architectural heritage, she began preparing a master's thesis focused on the status of earthen architectural heritage in Algeria. In her research, she examined both traditional earthen landmarks in the Kabylia region and modern earthen structures in western Algeria.

Presently, Dahbia serves as a teaching researcher in the Department of Architecture at the University of Mostaganem (Algeria). Concurrently, she is pursuing a doctoral degree with a focus on evaluating the architectural quality of hotels in Mostaganem.

Furthermore, Dahbia possesses a qualification in architectural heritage from the Algerian Ministry of Culture and is a member of ICOMOS International.

|- |   | RAHOU Djilali | Born in 1987 in Mostaganem, he is a passionate photographer specializing in black-and-white photography. After receiving training at the French Institute in Oran in 2018, he immersed himself in capturing the simplicity of everyday life using both his camera and smartphone. As a founding member of the "Workshop" collective, his work has been exhibited in Oran and internationally, including in France and Italy. In 2021, he participated in the third EU photography residency in Bousaada and served on the jury for the "Algeria in Its Best Light" competition organized by Media Expert newspaper. |}
