Project Overview

This is a project to organize a local satellite event with a group of educators made up of Ghanaian language teachers and education Directors who I am working with to get them involved in the free knowledge creation and sharing. With support for a satellite event, it can be pivotal to their broader understanding of language preservation and how Wikipedia and its sister projects can be utilized in the schools. The event will bring together Dagbani, Gonja and Mampruli language teachers together with District Director and other officers in the Nanton Education Directorate to learn the language preservation processes via the Wikimedia space and how they can also contribute in the creation and sharing of free knowledge. There will be a pre-event session where participants shall be introduced to lexicographical data on Wikidata before they watch the lexemes session and other sessions online during the main event.

PROJECT GOAL

The goal of this project is to contribute to language growth, development and preservation through Ghana Education Service. Once the leadership of education and teachers accept the use of Wikimedia products in the schools, language growth, development and preservation is guaranteed. We will have the opportunity during the event to watch sessions together and discuss among ourselves the ideas learned and how to incorporate some of them into our local language preservation endeavors. Many educators will have the opportunity to register their Wikimedia Accounts and start to contribute and use Wikimedia content to complement their teaching resources.

Team & Roles
