This is designed to empower participants to contribute meaningfully to Wikipedia, focusing on Assamese language, and to encourage active participation in the Asian Month 2024.

This workshop is primarily designed to promote Wikipedia Asian Month, encourage participants to contribute through editing and content creation, emphasize the value of open-source knowledge, and support the promotion of regional languages, specially the Assamese language. This Session includes;

# Introduction to Wikipedia

Duration: 30 minutes

• Overview of Wikipedia and its role in spreading knowledge.
• Introduction to Assamese Wikipedia.

• Encourage participants to search for Assamese and Asian topics on Wikipedia.
• Brief discussion on articles that need expansion or improvement in the languages.

# How to Edit Wikipedia Articles

Duration: 30 minutes

• Creating an account and logging in.
• Editing an existing article.
• Writing a new article (basic formatting and referencing).

Interactive Activity:

• Hands-on session where participants will create or edit an article in Assamese language (e.g., writing about a local festival, famous person or landmark).

# Contributing to Wikipedia Asian Month 2024

• Introduction to Wikipedia Asian Month and its objectives.

Interactive Activity

• Participants suggest topics related to Assamese culture to be added or improved on Wikipedia.
• Assign a specific topic for individuals or small groups to work on during the session.

Duration: 10 minutes

• How to ensure the quality of articles: citations, reliable sources, and neutral tone.
• Using images and media responsibly.

Duration: 20 minutes
