Esan Wikimedians Community
Esan Wikimedians User Group is a group of Èsán language Wikimedians dedicated to developing and promoting Wikimedia projects in Èsán language. Our goal is to nurture, develop,
preserve and promote the use of Èsán language pertinent to Wikimedia projects through diverse outreach, and capacity building to enable native speakers to contribute to open access. Individuals who share our ideas are most welcome in joining forces with us to achieve a common goal.
Objectives edit
Our objectives and activities include but are not limited to:
- Establish, develop, and promote Wikimedia projects in the Esan language
- Preserve and increase the visibility of Èsán language on the internet
- Enlisting enthusiast aboriginals, teachers, and intellectuals of the Esan language into the Wikimedia movement
- Create and increase the quality of Esan-related content on Wikimedia projects
- Support the creation, development, and free distribution of Esan-related educational materials to support teaching and learning.
- Partnering with mission-aligned organisations and institutions to achieve mission-aligned goals
Activities edit
This user group plans to hold and support the following activities:
Meetings: the user group will be organising meet-ups for its members to exchange ideas and to find ways to support them to continue editing the projects in areas where they would need help.
Capacity Building: capacity development is crucial to the sustainability of the project hence training will be organised to help newbies to learn editing techniques, content creation, translation and improving existing content in all Wikimedia projects.
Edit-a-thons and Writing contests: the group will be organizing editing contests and content creation drive to encourage existing editors and newbies to keep contributing to the Wikimedia projects.
Photowalk: organise trips and contests to encourage users to upload and document files to the commons which will be used in all Wikimedia projects.
Planned activities edit
- Meetups (virtual and physical ): a virtual meeting of Esan Language editors to exchange ideas, strategies and relevant collaborative effort in achieving the aims and objectives of the user group. The physical meeting will be an introductory section of various Wikimedia projects to the language community and ways to contribute to free knowledge and open access initiatives. The physical meeting will be rounded off with the translation of MediaWiki core messages to the Esan language (TBD)
- Edit-a-thon : this is aimed at content contribution to the Esan Language Wikipedia in the incubator (TBD).
