Author: oby ezeilo

Summary: Wikimedia Nigeria User Group Abuja Network celebrated Wikidata at 10 with an edit-a-thon on Wikidata. Wikidata central storage chamber for structured data for Wikimedia projects celebrated its 10 years of existence, and it was all fun and interesting.

The collaborative, multilingual, secondary, free knowledge database Wikidata is 10. To celebrate the moment, Wikimedia Network Abuja rolled out its drums with a Wikidata- Edit-A-Thon anniversary edition. Two Abuja network program coordinators facilitated the session; Mrs. Oby Ezeilo and Mrs. Carolyn Seaman.

Most of the editors were students and teachers from different learning institutions who learned how Wikidata could be used to understand better how information is organized, improve students' ability to consume information responsibly, access information and improve teachers' media and information, as well as literacy skills.

The competition embeds in editors the beauty and possibilities of Wiki data. Access to structured data and information across different languages and the ability of any language speaker to contribute.

Also, on the teacher's part, Wikidata supports the pulling of information to enrich a collection, improve research work and help illustrate a point in presentation with visualization.

At the end of the competition, a winner and runners-up emerged, namely, AdastralNg22, Angelanaelia19, and Lyndadetz, respectively. The top contributors were rewarded with fabulous prizes.

All attendees, especially new editors, were enjoined to continue with the Wiki update and make the all-inclusive Wikidata community a home.
