Activities that took place during the presentation of the WikiEducation book. Educational practices and experiences in Mexico with Wikipedia and other open resources in Xalala, Veracruz from the Wikimedia Mexico Education Program.

Summary: On April 27, 28 and 29, 2023 from the Wikimedia Mexico Education Program we carried out the Wikipedia event in Xalapa, which consisted of activities that accompanied the presentation of the WikiEducation book. Educational practices and experiences in Mexico with Wikipedia and other open resources in Xalapa, Veracruz.

On April 27, the WikiEducation book was presented at the Benemérita Escuela Normal Veracruzana Enrique C. Rébsamen, where José Reyes and Isamar Cerón from the Wikimedia Mexico Education Program and Alberto Ramírez Martinell from the Universidad Veracruzana and co-author of the work, talked about our experience in the book process, but also in the construction of free knowledge.

On the other hand, a training workshop was carried out on how to edit Wikipedia aimed at teachers and students, where the participants learned about the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikipedia and the possibilities it offers when including it inside and outside the classroom.

While, on April 28, the Education Program team facilitated a talk on Wikipedia in upper secondary education at the Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Veracruz, which was aimed at teachers and students, giving an approach to the encyclopedia largest free in the world. Later, at the Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Educación Superior de la Universidad Veracruzana, from the WMMX Education Program together with CIIES-UV teachers and students, we talked about why Wikipedia is part of education and how important is to transform the current educational practices. Finally, on April 29 with the management of the Sistema de Enseñanza Abierta de la Universidad Veracruzana, the workshop how to Illustrate Wikipedia was given, that is, how to contribute to Wikimedia Commons and the importance of visual narratives with free licenses.

From the Wikimedia Mexico Education Program, we appreciate the participation of all the people who participated in Wikipedia in Xalapa and with whom we share our contributions and reflections on our role as teachers and students in the construction of free and collective knowledge.
