Wikimedia Armenia's Educational Workshops
In November, “Wikimedia Armenia” launched a series of workshops for students of Armenian high schools and universities. The purpose of these workshops is to teach beginner participants Wikipedia editing tools before they start taking part in wiki projects and edit-a-thons. The first workshops introduce the history of the Wikimedia movement, Wikipedia and sister wiki projects, and principles of editing in wiki projects.
This month, seniors of a High school named after Galust Gyulbenkyan and Anatole France French Lycee attended wiki workshops at the office of Wikimedia Armenia. In late November, after a workshop at Wikimedia Armenia, a meeting between the principals of the Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex, the teachers and students of the Research College of the school, and the members and employees of the "Wikimedia Armenia" NGO was held in the Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex. Students presented articles they created after the workshop. The collaboration with schools will be continuous because this is one of the principal ways of introducing wiki projects to schools and attracting newcomers.
Besides schools, Wikimedia Armenia is also closely working with universities. This month the WMAM team visited Yerevan Mesrop Mashtots University. A meeting between the WMAM team and more than 60 students took place. The students were introduced to the Wikimedia movement, sister wiki projects, and the activities and projects of Wikimedia Armenia. According to the prearranged agreement a memorandum was signed which indicates that a group of students from the university will do their internship at Wikimedia Armenia by editing Armenian Wikipedia.
November was full of various workshops and one of them was specifically organized for the National Library of Armenia which started a collaboration with Wikimedia Armenia. The goal is to present the major national and academic libraries, as well as all regional libraries in separate articles, to add materials related to the history of the Armenian book and library work to the Armenian Wikipedia.
