Good news from Bolivia: Reading Wikipedia Program continues in 2024
The Wikimedistas de Bolivia team, in April, started the program "Let's read Wikipedia" with 29 teachers from the Don Bosco school, one of the largest schools in the city of La Paz, with whom the first module was developed.
In this experience we would like to highlight two fundamental aspects:
The first is that, for the first time, we are working with the Classroom platform, as a support tool to carry out complementary activities and share useful resources to accompany the teachers' experience.
The second is related to the great interest and enthusiasm shown by the teachers to learn about Wikipedia and the uses they can make of this tool in the classroom. This enthusiasm was especially evident in their interest in completing the entire training program, since initially only the first module was planned to be developed.
The agreement with the Don Bosco school was made in alliance with the Internet Bolivia Foundation, which has been working for several years to contribute to digital inclusion, the critical use of technology from a human rights perspective and sustainable development, through research, dialogue and promotion of public policies. The work was integrated into its "Digital Educators" area, which seeks to provide tools to teachers to prevent violence and exercise the digital rights of both students and teachers themselves.
In this start-up of the "Let's read Wikipedia" program, we also had the support of two volunteers, who began to learn about the contents of the program and worked on participation dynamics with the teachers.
We are currently working on identifying new allies in municipalities throughout the country; also, in the following weeks, we will sign agreements with other educational units, of which we will keep you informed to receive your comments and suggestions.
In May we will continue with the development of the entire "Let's Read Wikipedia" program at the Don Bosco School. At the end of the process, we hope to have the quality lesson plans proposed by the teachers, so that they can be applied in their classrooms.
