On-line Courses for Educators in Poland

Registration for the second edition of the free online course "Wikiszkola" has begun, which we have prepared at Wikimedia Polska for teaching staff of primary and secondary schools in Poland, teachers/ librarians/ educators. The course will start on May 15 and participants can complete it at their own pace in mid-July 2023. The first edition, attended by several dozen people, ended in March 2023.

Summary: In the Wikimedia Polska education team, we now finally have a tool to introduce wider groups of teachers and lecturers to Wikipedia ― thanks to the WikiLearn platform and cooperation with Wikimedia Education, we develop, test and implement more MOOCs. This is the part of our Wiki-school program.

Meanwhile, until mid-June 2023, the first edition of the Wikiszkoła-Uniwersytety online course, prepared for the academic environment, also by Wikimedia Polska, will last. 50 people signed up for the course. We create courses on the WikiLearn platform.

The titles of the main parts of both courses are based on the scheme used by Wikimedia Argentina in a similar MOOC initiative. Example:

Introduction

  1. Wikipedia - the largest social project in history.
  2. Beyond Wikipedia. Free knowledge, free culture
  3. Wikipedia: feel free to edit!
  4. Credibility of information and Wikipedia.
  5. Wikipedia at school and university.
  6. Design your action

In addition, we have introduced a library with materials, case studies, specially prepared videos, and quizzes. We also meet groups online. In the course for teachers, educational materials were also provided by external experts. A large part of the chapters and materials are related to cooperation between Wikipedia and libraries (1lib1ref, other library cooperation, but also our program for school libraries: Wikiteka)
