[WikiNaskah: Digitization of Manuscripts as a Massive Effort to Provide Resources for the Development of the Sundanese Wikisource (Wikipabukon)]

Abstract/description

edit

Wikipabukon, as a newly launched project from the multilingual Wikisource, needs to enrich its collection with more varied content. Currently, manuscripts searched from sources on the internet do not necessarily have a free license, especially since digital manuscripts in Sundanese are very limited. Apart from that, many Sundanese language source texts in physical form are still stored in libraries and private collections that have not been digitized, so they cannot be utilized optimally for Wiki projects, especially Wikisource. Not only limited to the scarcity of content quantity and variety, contributors with adequate skills to contribute effectively to Wikipabukon are still relatively few, thus effective steps are needed to reduce the editing gap in Wikipabukon in the future. However, the shortage of contributors with adequate skills to participate in Wikipabukon is also a challenge that needs to be addressed. Therefore, effective steps are needed to reduce the editing gap in Wikipabukon in the future. It is hoped that there will be more digital texts in Sundanese available openly to anyone with appropriate Creative Commons licenses, as well as an increase in the number of manuscript indexes in Wikipabukon that can be utilized by contributors for transcription purposes.

Relationship to ESEAP or to the theme

edit

The WikiNaskah project reaches out to libraries or institutions that possess collections of Sundanese manuscripts that align with the community's needs. Currently, one of the partners on our outreach list is the Ajip Rosidi Library. This collaboration is not meant to be short-term; rather, the WikiNaskah project endeavors to continuously evolve through aligned projects. The hope is that the more people who become acquainted with Wikipabukon, the more interested they will be in contributing further or engaging in broader collaborations.
