ESEAP Conference 2022/Submissions/Using Wikidata population values in Wikipedia

Using Wikidata population values in Wikipedia

edit

Abstract/description

edit

Following the development of the PopulationFromWikidata module there have been discussions around how to expand the use of population data from Wikidata. ESEAP is an opportunity to bring these conversations into one room.

Beginning with a brief summary of the PopulationFromWikidata project we will then explore next challenges for using Wikidata population values in Wikipedia articles. A collation of proposed ideas for future work will be presented and participants will be invited to offer their feedback on these proposals and add their own ideas. It is intended that the group can collectively brainstorm best options for next steps. Outcomes will be taken back to the Talk pages for all to contribute.

Relationship to ESEAP or to the theme

edit

The PopulationFromWikidata tool (and follow-on work) will likely be useful beyond Australia and beyond population data, so the ESEAP conference is a good opportunity to further this work with the broader context and potential use cases in mind.
