Donors
Wikimedia donors are individuals and organizations which donate money to Wikimedia organizations.
Seven million people donated to the Wikimedia Foundation in the 2018-2019 fiscal year[1], and 360,000 people donated to Wikimedia Deutschland in 2018.[2] 1804 people donated to Wikimedia Italia in 2018.[3]
The Wikimedia Foundation maintains lists of major benefactors who have donated large sums of money to the Foundation.
According to a 2014 WMF survey, self-reported donors are most likely to cite their frequent use of Wikipedia as the primary reason for their donation, and are less likely to frame their donation in ideological terms (supporting free knowledge for all).[4] According to a 2013 WMDE donors survey, the average donor's age is 52 years, 80% of donors are male, 56% have a university degree and/or doctorate, and 91% are not members of WMDE.[5]
