Deoband Community Wikimedia/Activity plans/Half-Yearly Strategic plan for September 2023 - February 2024

Greetings from the Deoband Community Wikimedia. This is a list of planned/proposed activities for the term beginning September 2023 and ending February 2024. We would have our parent organisation legally registered soon (and we will subsequently share more details afterwards).

  • Hosting of the DCW Conversation Hour throughout the six months. Given the success of this program following our March 2023 strategic recommendations, we have plans to have it hosted in a hybrid mode as well which would likely be part of our institutional partnerships. The standardisation of the conversation hour is among our priorities.
  • Taking institutional partnership with Bayt al-Hikmah Deoband forward. We have prelimenary discussions scheduled for the third week of July 2023. This would help us design our "assignment module".
    • On 5 July 2023, we had a prelimenary meeting at the institute and we have planned of discussing some ideal collaborative programs on 25 July 2023. The long term plan is to engage the students of the institute in free knowledge movement, helping them upskill their language and research skills by contributing to Wikimedia projects. The ideal projects include those related to EveryBookItsReader - enriching Wikipedia with thematic books!
  • We have finally been able to collaborate with the English Researchers Collective at the Department of English in Jamia Millia Islamia, with the inaugural workshop taking place on 23 July 2023. We look forward to planning more of it.

  • Two photo events (places would be discussed on time, target of 500 images), several workshops (depends on how our workshop at the DoE, JMI comes up), one on-wiki thematic contest (likely two month long, with a target of 500 articles, and so the Wikidata items).
  • DCW's Leadership Development and Skills Infrastructure Plan would be ready by November 2023, and we look forward to its first trial during this period, and hopefully formation of an institutional partnership at Jamia Millia Islamia.
  • Continuously sharing the best practices with the wider community through Diff blog and Let's Connect Program.
  • Targeted Wikipedias: Arabic, English, Hindi, Kashmiri, Urdu, Yoruba
  • Targeted Wikiquotes: Arabic, English, Hindi, Urdu
  • Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.
  • Formation of collaborive programs similar to Deoband Yoruba Collaborative Project and DCW-K Editathon. We look forward to making this happen by having dicussions with Wikimedians from all around the globe at Wikimania Singapore.
    • Having previously collaborated with Wikimedia Community UG Turkey in the creation of Wikipedia 101, we plan to create "creative" educational sets in Urdu language.
  • We launched the initiative of Heritage Lens in July 2023, and look forward to having few of its iterations during this period.
