Notes
edit中文 (Chinese)
editChinese does not give months, days of the week, or years special names. Rather, Chinese merely uses the number. The Chinese date format always starting with the year. For example, "July 31st, 2004", in Chinese is:
- 二〇〇四年七月三十一日 or 2004年7月31日
- (literally, "Two zero zero four year seven month thirty-one day" or "2004 year 7 month 31 day")
For the Chinese, the day of week is not usually included in the article. Similarly, "Saturday," the sixth day of the week, is:
- 星期六
- (literally, "week six")
The exception is "Sunday," which in Chinese is 星期日(literally, "week day"). And in days of week, Arabic numerals should not be used.
Also, BCE (BC) is 公元前 in Chinese, and ACE (AD) is 公元. For example, "220 BC", in Chinese is:
- 公元前二二〇年 or 公元前220年
French
editWhen using roman or decimal ordinal numbers, French uses superscript er for first (or re when the ordinal matches a feminine noun like décennie or année), then superscript e for everything else:
- Ier, Ire (1st)
- IIe (2nd, but not last in a pair)
- IId, IIde (2nd in a pair)
- IIIe (3rd), IVe (4th), Ve (5th), ...
- Xe (10th), XIe (11th), XIIe (12th), ...
- XXe (20th), XXIe (21st), XXIIe (22nd), XXIIIe (23rd), XXIVe (24th), ...
Usually the superscript form is preferred for ordinal suffixes, and strongly encouraged with roman numbers. Roman numbers normally use small capitals for cardinals and prepended ordinals, but big capitals for unsuffixed ordinals used alone for years or in appended positions (e.g. numbered names of sovereigns, or book/chapter/title/section numbers).
By tradition, milleniums and centuries are written using roman number with big capitals as they are ordinals. same rule for sovereign numbered names and book/chapter/title/section number. But low capitals roman numbers are used for alinea ordinals within chapters or sections. Some authors prefer using century ordinal numbers using small capitals (there's no agreed convention), while keeping big capitals for milleniums.
Using latin digits for milleniums, centuries ordinals and for sovereign ordinal names is strongly discouraged in French (Jean XXIII, not Jean 23) and when spelled out instead of using . But years may also occasionnaly be written using roman numbers (old fashion, mostly found in old books or legal statements). Today, French uses latin digits for all years counted in the Gregorian era, and roman digits are often used when counting in other eras or in some historic dates, always after the French word an (meaning year) generally with the name of the era, as in an I de la Révolution).
However, day of months use the ordinal form only for the 1st day of month (and their decimal number in digits are suffixed with superscript er), for all other days of the month, only cardinals are used (and decimal numbers using digits are not suffixed). So we have : premier janvier (1er janvier), followed by deux janvier (2 janvier), ..., trente-et-un janvier (31 janvier), premier février (1er février), deux février (2 février), etc.
It is acceptable (but not recommanded) to use the cardinal form for the 1st day of month but only when using the digits (1 janvier), but never acceptable when spelled out (un janvier is wrong, as 1 janvier is still read as premier janvier); but it is always incorrect to use the ordinal form for other days of the month (deuxième janvier or 2e janvier are both wrong).

editWhen writing dates we append a suffix to the day number which is used to change the cardinal number to an ordinal:
- 1af (cyntaf - 1st)
- 2ail (ail - 2nd)
- 3ydd (trydydd - 3rd)
- 4ydd (pedwerydd - 4th)
- 5ed (pumed - 5th)
- 6ed - 20fed (chweched (6th) - ugeinfed (20th))
- 21ain (unfed ar hugain - first on twenty (21st))
- 31ain (unfed ar ddegfed ar hugain - one and tenth on twenty (31st))
Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese)
editVietnamese does not give months, days of the week, or years special names. Rather, Vietnamese merely uses the number. For example, "July 31st, 2004", for the purposes of the Vietnamese wikis, is:
- 31 tháng 7 năm 2004 or 31 tháng 7, 2004
Normally, however, it would be written:
- ngày 31 tháng 7 năm 2004 or hôm 31 tháng 7 năm 2004
- (literally, "day 31 of month 7")
For the Vietnamese wikis, the "day" is usually included in the article, but is not part of the page title or link. Similarly, "Saturday," the seventh day of the week, is:
- thứ 7
- (literally, "the seventh one")
The exception is "Sunday," which in Vietnamese is Chủ nhật.
Also, BCE (BC) is TCN in Vietnamese, and CE (AD) is CN.
Greek
