Datafest Scotland 2014
The Data is now open and shaping the world
editDatafest 2014 is about sharing: sharing ideas, experiences, challenges, knowledge -- and of course, open data. The Conference is supported by the Open Coalition of community organisations such as Wikimedia UK, OpenStreetMap, Open Knowledge Foundation Scotland and the National Library of Scotland. It will provide an exceptional opportunity for these communities to work together and to learn from each other. The Glasgow Future Cities Demonstrator / Open Glasgow will be a key contributor to the event, and we have generous offers of support from SICSA and Scottish Government. We encourage participation from other public sector and third sector organisations in Scotland and elsewhere.
The event will be designed to maximise dialogue and sharing. We anticipate a combination of workshops, tutorials, and unconference sessions on topics involving open data, open knowledge and open access. Apart from a selected few keynote talks, presentations will be kept short, and take the form of lightning talks, speed geeking, and pecha kucha sessions.
Central Theme
editUntil recently, much of the effort in the Open Data community has focussed on the ‘supply side’: getting large organisations to publish data that conforms to the open definition. How can we now broaden and enrich the relationship between data providers on the one hand and citizens and community groups on the other?
Some suggested topics
- Building the ‘demand side’ of open data
- Combining open data with crowd-sourced data
- Widening participation in Wikipedia and engaging with the interests of communities as well as highly motivated individuals
- Using open data to stimulate and support dialogue between citizens and public bodies
