Description

The climatic and Environmental Awareness in Nigeria is targeted towards laying a solid foundation for the widespread use and adoption of wikipedia and wikidata as a tool for documenting climatic changes and improving climatic, environmental informations in the two major nigerian languages Yoruba and Igbo.

Through this project we hope to engage youths,students,new and existing wikimedian editors equiping them with the basic digital,researching and editing skills to bridge the content gap about the underrepresented climatic and environmental articles across the local geographies in Nigeria ,creating documenting,improving wikipedia and wikidata articles,adding nigerian climate activists and organisations on wikipedia and wikidata and also translating related climatic articles to the igbo and yoruba wikipedia

Context

The stategies adopted in carrying out the project are;

1. Sensitization and Awareness: a week before the commencement of the event ,there will be an online outreach where we will distribute and share e flyers across all designated social media platforms. 2. Edit a thon Day 1(physical training):The participants will learn the general editing sklills and principles like searching ,retrieving and using information on wikipedia and wikidata 3. Edit a thon Day 2(online training):This would serve as a medium to train and help participants learn more,solidify their knowledge and also share their experiences encountered while editing on wikipedia ,wikidata and translating of this related articles on yoruba and igbo wikipedia 4.Contest:The event will end with an online contest ,as this will help solidify their knowledge ,where top contributors will be awarded Prizes and certificate issued issued as incentives to encourage participation in other and future wiki projects.

No doubt if this project is approved it will massively increase the range of free knowledge climatic and environmental content on wikipedia that would stay relevant in our changing world.

  2. Ebubechukwu1 (co-facilitator) Experienced Wikimedia Volunteer Editor,WIR Nigeria,she is experienced and have co facilitated several wikimedia projects.

This is an individual request which would be managed and facilitated by both team members as organizers. Funds would also be received into an individual's bank account but will be dedicated for the project.

Fallout

The project hopes to build a community of volunteers who are interested in open source and the environment.
