Community Wishlist Survey 2022/Editing/More keyboard shortcuts when editing -- for faster work/Proposal

  • Problem: We could edit faster with more keyboard shortcuts. That's especially true for items that require multiple clicks to pull up in the VisualEditor, especially adding a Template or adding special characters or the References section on the bottom. For comparison, we can already add a citation with Ctrl+Shift+K
  • Proposed solution: More shortcuts like Ctrl+Shift+K for items in the VisualEditor or code editor menus. Stretch solution #1: make those shortcuts customizable (like this); Stretch solution #2: assign keyboard shortcuts for inserting specific special characters, e.g., „these open-close quotes“
  • Who would benefit: Frequent editors and new editors who are used to shortcuts in their other authoring tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and thus would decrease the risk of dropping off as Wikipedia editors
