UTRS for Wikimedia Commons.

  • Who would benefit: Everyone, (1) the blocked users have another way to appeal, (2) the Stewards as they are the only option Wikimedia Commons blocks can be appealed to if users can’t do this locally, basically serving as a substitute arbitration committee for Wikimedia Commons, and (3) every Wikimedia project, as they’re all dependent on Wikimedia Commons for their imagery and other free and open files, and having good photographers and other people return would greatly benefit any lover of (visual) knowledge.
  • Proposed solution: Create a UTRS for Wikimedia Commons, this one would work practically the same as the one on English Wikipedia. This would immediately be an option between contacting administrators locally and contacting “the stews”.
  • More comments: I'm personally not a fan of the system (as administrators can only basically give one answer which is the w:en:WP:SO without ever addressing a single point), but if this gets any users who would've otherwise not been able to appeal their blocks unblocked and help have more good photographs uploaded then even if this would only get 1 (one) photographer unblocked it would be an amazing thing.

Hey Donald Trung, you'd probably want to briefly explain what a UTRS is and how it works. Those not familiar with it on English Wikipedia will probably not support something they don't understand what it is. (: /Johan (WMF) (talk) 23:06, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
