About

edit

In the spirit of celebrating women globally who have created positive impact through their acts of service or career path and contributed their quota to global development, this year’s International Women Day celebration, as it is done annually every March, with the theme "Embrace Equity", has been adopted to appreciate the efforts of women worldwide towards making the world a better place to live in, hence promoting inclusiveness and active participation among women in a bid to discourage discrimination, gender based stereotypes and promote an equitable society where opportunities exist for all.

In partnership with Art+Feminism; which is an organization celebrating its’ 10th year of existence on promoting knowledge of women in arts and related discuss globally on open knowledge, we would love to host a meet-up, edit training, edit-a-thon session and a get together party, aimed at exploring conversations about women who are trailblazers in African music, and also take a step further by documenting their stories and impact on the multimillion dollar industry in Africa on selected wikimedia projects –wikipedia, wiki commons and wikidata.

This we believe should bring more credence to the personalities of these amazing women, their impact, and ultimately share the knowledge of their stories with every user of the free encyclopedia and the world generally to learn and re-use freely, since Wikimedia provides a resource to share knowledge with billions of its’ users.
