CityJS Wikimedia Hackathon 2022

Hackathon goal

The objective of this Hackathon event is to cover a wide range of technical areas and projects for newbies to contribute to as a volunteer in the Wikimedia ecosystem. We will also cover Javascript-related tasks for beginners, contribution process steps, and other ways for volunteers to get involved in the community projects, such as through mentoring programs and events.This event is targeted at digitally non-inclusive groups and marginalised communities who will witness a tech event and take part for the first time in their region. The 48-hour Wikimedia Hackathon will cover 80- 100 student developers across India. We will have trainers and mentors from Wikimedia Foundation and volunteers community who will train the students and also guide them throughout the Hackathon.

10am : Inauguration of Hackathon
10:30 am : Wikimedia API session by Neechalkaran, Tamil Wikipedia contributor
11:30 am: short break
11:40 am:Wikimedia Commons QA and task allocation
12:30pm: Lunch break
1:30pm: Media Wiki UserScript session by Jayprakash, MediaWiki developer
3:30pm QA and task allocation on Media Wiki
5:30pm: Jury and mentor panel to check the work progress and provide feedback (approach level to be assessed
6:30pm : Hackathon continues (main logic/ algorithm to be figured out by the teams and prototyped)
8pm: Hackathon day ends

March 12
10am: Jury/ mentor panel to assess the prototype
11am: Mozilla Community campaigns and activities by Gayathri Devi, Mozillian
12 noon: Hackathon continues for final work and presentation (Jayprakash and Neechalkaran to check the progress at this phase)
12:30pm: Lunch break
1:30pm:Technical volunteer opportunities for newbies in the Wikipedia ecosystem (Workshop- CityJS India Hackathon) by Srishti Sethi, Wikimedia Foundation
3pm: Hackathon continues
4pm: Final presentation of projects
