Challenge WikiAfrica Mobile Game is a mobile phone knowledge game aiming at involving players in competing by answering general questions with local answers. It is a fun, engaging and competitive way for the younger generation to activate their pride in their community and for the project to aggregate community knowledge and facts from that community. The majority of children and adults across Africa have access to a mobile phone. In fact, there are more mobile phones in Uganda than there are light bulbs. How does it workeditThe Challenge WikiAfrica Mobile Game allows players to access and generate knowledge via multiplayer knowledge ‘rooms’. Each room covers a specific knowledge area (geography, history, people, etc.) and allows the player to compete for points by answering general questions with local answers. The answers are pooled to allow for differing views to be expressed around specific subjects. Results and a winners board will be fed back to the website page. Questions are categorised according to type, genre and difficulty. The points awarded to a player depends on the amount of players competing, amount of players correctly answering a particular question and the question’s difficulty. Bonus points or multipliers may be awarded for additional content, i.e. a photo about a subject, an interview with the mayor, village elder, or another notable person or project. CreditseditChallenge WikiAfrica Mobile Game was conceived as part of the Kumusha Takes Wiki project to collect information from younger generations in a fun, engaging and competitive way. The initiative was conceived by Florence Devouard and Isla HaddowFlood (WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre) in 2013.
