Description - Virtual event with Wikimedians of the Caribbean User Group to mark Caribbean carnivals around the world on Saturday September 19, 2020, that have largely had to be canceled because of COVID-19. The content is a livesteam celebration comparable to CentralNotice/Request/Virtual Great American Wiknic, but using the geography previously reached by CentralNotice/Request/Caribbean survey. The livestream will be broadcast from Wikipedia Weekly Network and will include multilingual cultural contributions, and will be followed by breakout sessions in multiple languages.

Sounds good. Are you going to set this up yourself Pharos? I thought you were a CN admin, but noticed most of your banners not ending up onwiki. Ciell (talk) 20:26, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ciell: Yes thanks, I'll plan to set this up myself, with maybe a little help informally from Seddon etc. Most of my past CN banners have gone live, but I haven't always posted it to the request page afterward (while including them on the calendar). I'll try to do better with this, I wish the interface for finding and linking to past campains and banners was a little easier.--Pharos (talk) 03:56, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pharos,
Just out of interest, I looked at the banner settings for this campaign. Do you know why we have a countries called "Netherlands Antilles"? (Afaik it's been the Dutch Caribbean since 2010, when Aruba and Curacao got a special status.) I can see you were targetting Aruba separately, but don't see any special settings for Curacao, it doesn't even seem to be in the list? And I say "was targetting, because the campaign seems to have ended an hour after it started yesterday? I thought it was supposed to be running untill Saturday?
That was what I gathered from your request, and what I told the Dutch Carribean working group, who were very interested in the campaign. Ciell (talk) 17:59, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi all! Just a question, would it be possible to have this banner extended, to end on Sunday, September 27th at 0500 UTC? There exists a few more people who are still interested in knowing more about the event since we plan to have more installments as the years wear on as well as an on-going collaboration that we want to channel interested parties to within the week. JamaicanEditor (talk) 05:18, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@JamaicanEditor: what countries/projects/languages are you proposing to extend the banner for? Can you illustrate your request by online discussions, or pages that have more information about the instalments and collaboration you are mentioning? Ciell (talk) 06:17, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Ciell: The extension would follow for the English-Speaking Caribbean. Translations likely won't come in within the asked-for extension timeframe given our current organization capacity. On the discussion front, the event page, particularly the call-to-action under the frameless image is one part of the focus of post-event engagement. The other (part) is information steering readers & wider community engagement to the now-launched partner initiative, NewsOnWiki Phase 2 - which is also engaging the Caribbean. Other conversations are unfortunately happening offline but, recognizing the lag-time in the wider public's interest, the call for extension was seen being worth the shot.
@Pharos: I'm going to leave the decision to you. Ciell (talk) 18:00, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ciell: This would be ok with me, maybe at a reduced capacity. It doesn't look like WLM is active in any of the target countries.--Pharos (talk) 14:54, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Aruba is taking part again this year. Ciell (talk) 16:59, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Godd point, heard also from Effeietsanders, perhaps just the other jurisdictions then if it would interfere. By the way @Ciell:, should WLM be on for "Netherland Antilles", it's an obsolete code I think, but maybe it still hits some places?--Pharos (talk) 19:29, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pharos, yes I mentioned that above to you: "Do you know why we have a countries called "Netherlands Antilles"? (Afaik it's been the Dutch Caribbean since 2010, when Aruba and Curacao got a special status.) I can see you were targetting Aruba separately, but don't see any special settings for Curaçao, it doesn't even seem to be in the list?" Ciell (talk) 20:41, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's a difficult one, my solution in practice has been to tick all the boxes that exist and might apply. You don't lose anything by ticking the box of a potentially obsolete option.--Pharos (talk) 21:00, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I guess. I've turned it back on though, as you might have suspected because of my edit on the landing page. I've turned down the activity level to 50% and limited impressions to 10/day. Ciell (talk) 21:07, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
