Introduction
editAt the Wikimedia Celtic Knot Conference 2024, both in-person and online, we are dedicated to building a community that embodies inclusivity, respect, and safety. This commitment extends to all participants, including attendees, organisers, speakers, volunteers, and partners involved in the conference. Our Safe and Friendly Space Policy is designed to ensure that everyone involved can engage in productive, respectful dialogue and collaboration without fear of harassment or discrimination.
This policy aligns with the Wikimedia Foundation's Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC), the host organisation, Wikimedia Community Ireland’s Safe Space Policy along with the Co-host Wikimedia UK’s Safe Space Policy. It is crafted to uphold the values and expectations of our diverse community.
Participation guidelines
edit1. Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) Compliance
The Wikimedia Celtic Knot Conference will prominently display and adhere to the Universal Code of Conduct in all venues and digital platforms used for the event. This code is foundational to our community values and behavioural expectations.
2. Harassment Prevention and Awareness
We are committed to proactive efforts to educate about and prevent harassment within our community. Information on how to report violations will be accessible to all participants, ensuring a supportive environment free from fear.
3. Reporting and Resolution of Incidents
Anyone who experiences or witnesses behaviour that violates this policy is encouraged to report it to the designated contact points, which will be clearly communicated at the event. All reports will be handled with confidentiality and appropriate measures will be taken to investigate and address the issue.
Participants are urged to speak up against any form of misconduct, supporting our zero-tolerance approach to ensure community well-being.
4. Collaboration with Partners
The Wikimedia Celtic Knot Conference will work closely with all partners to ensure alignment with the Universal Code of Conduct and this Safe and Friendly Space Policy. This collaboration reinforces our collective responsibility to foster a safe and inclusive environment.
5. Continuous Improvement
Our commitment to creating a welcoming environment is ongoing. We will regularly review and update our practices based on community feedback, new insights, and evolving needs to enhance equity and inclusivity.
Behaviour that will not be tolerated
editThe organising team will be especially careful about the following areas and can make the decision of temporarily or completely banning participants whose behaviour is considered harmful to others.
To maintain a safe and inclusive environment, the following behaviours are explicitly prohibited at the Wikimedia Celtic Knot Conference:
Discriminatory Speech: Any harmful verbal comments related to a person's age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, political views, religion, or language will not be tolerated.
Threatening Behavior: This includes intentional intimidation, stalking, following without consent, inappropriate photography or filming, unwelcome physical contact, and any other conduct intended to coerce or intimidate participants.
Sexual Misconduct: Unwelcome sexual attention, suggestive remarks, inappropriate requests for sexual favours, and any other forms of unwelcome verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature are strictly prohibited.
Inappropriate Content: Display or distribution of sexually explicit or otherwise offensive or disturbing materials without proper warning is forbidden.
Disruption of Events: Participants must refrain from disrupting talks, workshops, or any conference activities through sustained interruptions or other obstructive actions.
Invasion of Privacy: Persistent intrusion into the private lives of participants, unauthorised sharing of personal information, or attempts to obtain such information without consent is prohibited.
Disruptive Behavior: Participants are expected to behave responsibly. Actions that are antisocial, damaging to property, or indicative of impaired awareness are to be reported immediately.
Implementation
editBy participating in the Wikimedia Celtic Knot Conference 2024, you agree to adhere to this Safe and Friendly Space Policy and help foster a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.
Get some support/help
editWe will have a group of designated volunteers who will monitor the in-person and online events to ensure that the policy outlined here is adhered to. They will have the ability to remove those violating the policy from the comment sections, pads, and any other discussion areas under the control of the conference team. They will also have the ability to permanently ban anyone who clearly and/or persistently violates the policy from the in-person Conference.
For serious and illegal incidents, we will report to and cooperate with local law enforcement. For other matters, we will work with our partners to respond appropriately, always prioritising the safety and well-being of our community. Participants have rights regarding their personal data, and inquiries can be directed to the designated point of contact.
If you feel uncomfortable during the event or feel that the above policies are being broken, please contact Sophie (WCI) on Telegram (@SophieFitz) or by email (info@wikimedia.ie).
