CIS-A2K/Events/Women's History Month events in Maharashtra

CIS-A2K is working with Marathi community and gender based organisations for the last three years to organise various events during Women's History Month. This year, we focused on online events and small documentation projects adhering to pandemic guidelines.

On 8 march, we facilitated three hour online event with Lek Ladki Abhiyan for women activists across the state on knowledge creation regarding social, legal, health issues. Total 42 women attended this programme. Together, we also created the first 7 videos on the theme, 'Women at work'. Other videos in the series are being processed. The uploading on YouTube under CCSA license was done as a tool on Commons could not support. These were uploaded on Commons later. This concept is received very well, 3 more organisations have shown interest in working with us on this theme.

Women's day was celebrated with Jnana Prabodhini's Sanwadini group working on Lingua Libre, Audio books and Lexemes. On 9 March, two hour online discussion, experience sharing, brainstorming on future plans was done. Total 24 women participated. This group decided to complete 10k recordings on LL and achieved this on 8 March.

Women at Work edit

  1. Bhakkam Paya (Strong Foundation) - This video captures a life of Yallwa Rajendra Pawade, who built courage to start concrete mixing business. She has provided employment to 15 people for the last 15 years.
  2. Akhand Tapteep (Tiptop always) - This video captures a life of Bharati Ankush Mohite, who built courage to start ironing and dry cleaning business. She is supporting her family financially for the last 34 years.
  3. Mayechi Oob (Warmth of love) - This video captures a life of Sunanda Rajaram Jawal, who built courage to start quilt making enterprise in rural area of Satara district. She is supporting her family financially for the last 30 years.
  4. Nachu Anande (Joy of dancing) - This video captures a life of Vaishali Sangramsinh Ghatge, who has pursued passion for dance and established dance training institute. She is training enthusiasts in Bharatnatyam and Folk dances for the last 21 years.
  5. Sukhad Watchal (Comfortable journey) - This video captures a life of Shanta Vitthal Karande, who has acquired traditional lather footwear making skill and established production unit in a small village in Satara district. She is running the business successfully against all odds for the last 15 years.
  6. Chatpatit (Tasty) - This video captures a life of Pushpa Ramesh Dangi, who hails from a small village in Rajasthan. The women in her society always stay in conservative tradition called ghunghat. After migration in Satara district, she struggled to start a snacks serving enterprise.
  7. Vishwasu Prawas (Trusted transport) - This video captures a life of Sujata Dnyandev Sontakke, who hails from a small village in Satara district. Inspired by women drivers in the big city once, she made her mind to learn driving. She was one of the two women who got commercial vehicle driving license in the district. She purchased her own mini bus and started transport service for school students.
