CIS-A2K/Events/Online workshop on Wikimedia projects for active citizen groups

Active citizen groups from various places shown interest to contribute in Wikimedia projects. Our institutional partner Jnana Prabodhini's 'Sanwadini' women's group facilitated in organising this workshop. On the occasion of Marathi language fortnight, this online workshop was organised on 23 January to introduce different Wikimedia projects. Total 45 participants actively attended in this 2.5 hours workshop.
Looking at the diversity of the group, agenda was open. The topics included Unicode, importance of open source applications, Marathi websites, copyright issues, authors database and major Wikimedia projects. The specific training programs would be planned in future according to the skills and interests.

Follow-up Wikipedia workshop edit

Few members of the above group have shown interest in content generation in Wikipedia and taken initiative to organise Wikipedia workshop on 5 April 2021. This two hour workshop was conducted between 6-8 pm, in which 22 women participated.

In the beginning, the participants explained their skills and expertise in various areas. Then the basics of Wikipedia principles and editing process was discussed in details. Collectively it was decided to develop the draft articles in Google docs initially and then moving them to sandbox in Wikipedia. The process will be developed through the monthly online workshops.
