Outreaching the wiki motive of free education is of primary concern in India. Owing to the needs and concerns of India, a noble approach is a way to an effective approach. To link the nobleness and outreach efforts of Wikimedia in India, the paper proposes a smart approach- WikiInitiatives. WikiInitiatives has 2 perspectives- (i) for people, (ii) for community. People: WikiInitiatives are a series of simple initiatives, for a cause. The paper proposes WikiWomen, a WikiInitiative to women safety. The paper scrutinizes that how such an initiative can positively (a) increase safety of women through free access to self defense knowledge, (b) act as an indirect but effective impact on mass media, and (c) as a response to this good-will initiative, it will lead to a symbiotic action- more female editors and contributors. Owing to the high importance of Wikimedia in Indian internet user’s lives, a single WikiInitiative project can have a 3-dimensional, but pressing impact in the Indian, plus Wikimedian society. WikiNet, another WikiInitiative to increase accessibility of Indians to Internet, will result into more users, and a larger community. The paper explores the possible positive impact from on-web and on-ground efforts of Wikimedia foundation, in collaboration with Voluntary Organisations, NGOs, ULBs, and GOI. Such participatory planning approach will increase the accessibility of Wikimedia. Community: The paper proposes WikiInitiatives for community, which are time-bound but fun challenges for Wikimedians. These WikiInitiatives are an interface between behind and on the screen activities. Various proposals of diverse initiatives have been discussed in the paper, like attractive section explaining guidance for editing pages (expected to increase a huge amount of wiki editors); working towards creating a more female friendly website design to appeal more women, and to reduce the gender gap between the wiki editors; using the popularity system used by Google in Wikipedia, to ease up user experience, and more. Thus, the paper links different initiatives to harness Wikimedian motto of “free educational content to the world”, with specific and pressing needs of India, to reach the ultimate goal where “every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge”.
