Our Journey So Far

edit

Afroyanga Bootcamp began as a vision to create a space where young Africans could come together to share their diverse experiences and contribute to the global knowledge base. The first edition, Afroyanga Bootcamp 1.0, was a groundbreaking event that hosted 30 participants from across different states in Nigeria. These participants were selected from over 200 applications, an overwhelming response that highlighted the immense interest and need for such an initiative. It was incredibly competitive, and if we had our way, we would have loved to include everyone, as all applicants submitted strong applications.

The participants of Bootcamp 1.0 engaged in hands-on training, collaborative projects, and dynamic discussions that not only enhanced their skills but also fostered lifelong connections. One of our proudest moments was the creation of several high-impact Wikipedia articles, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and vibrant communities of Africa. The enthusiasm and dedication of our participants were truly inspiring and set the stage for even greater accomplishments.

Building on this success, Afroyanga Bootcamp 2.0 will host 40 participants, marking an increase from last year. As we continue to grow, we aim to expand the bootcamp to welcome participants from other African countries, further enriching the diversity and impact of our community. With the ongoing support of the Wikimedia Foundation, we are excited to continue empowering young Africans to connect, collaborate, and contribute to the wealth of free knowledge.
