The grant request is for funding to support Using Images For Climate Change Awarenes event in Bidibidi and Imvepi Refugee Settlements, organized by the Wikimedia community in Refugee Settlements In Uganda, to capture images related to climate change within the Refugee context. The resulting photos will be used to improve articles during a WikiForHumanRights editathon, and the Africa Environment Day which will take place soon in honor of Africa Environment Day and Wangari Maathai Day.

The context of the grant request is to organize Using Images For Climate Change Awarenes event and training Refugee Wikimedians in Bidibidi and Imvepi Refugee Settlement, led by the Wikimedia community in the Refugee Settlement, to capture images related to climate change within the Refugee context. The resulting photos will be used to improve articles during a WikiForHumanRights editathon, which will take place on March 3rd in honor of Africa Environment Day and Wangari Maathai Day.

Bidibidi Refugee Settlement is a refugee camp in northwestern Uganda. With over 270,000 South Sudanese refugees fleeing the ongoing civil war, as of early 2017 it was the largest refugee settlement in the world. The Settlements faces various environmental challenges, including climate change, deforestation, and water scarcity. The Wikimedia community in Refugee Settlement aims to use visual storytelling to raise awareness of these issues and engage the local community in the discussion around environmental sustainability.

The requested grant funding of 1350 USD will cover the costs of camera hire, transportation, permits, and other equipment required for the Collection. The event will be organized in collaboration with local partners and will prioritize the safety and well-being of participants.
