Submit of request
This request for micro-funding to Africa Environment Wikifocus has just been submitted by Michaelphoya on 27-02-2023 and has been selected for support.

Description edit

The Funding request will support in commemoration of the African Environment Day. The mutlifaceted approach for this would be to introduce Wikimedia activities to potential volunteers while highlighting climate change awareness. It will also be done to celebrate an icon in climate change, Wangaari Mathaai. Its will also to link climate change data on Malawi to the open movement, specifically under the Wikimedia project umbrella.

Context edit

Please specify the context of your request.

Like most countries in Africa and across the world, Malawi is not spared the effects of climate change. That said, there is need for more community involvement. Wikipedia and related platforms affords us means of improving community engagement around climate change. Zooming in on Africa Environment Day allows to not only celebrate the legacy of Wangaai Mathaai but also introduce potential contributors to the open movement. It also presents us a chance for depositing climate data from Malawi onto other platforms.
