Description

The world is facing an unprecedented environmental crisis in the form of climate change. Rising temperatures, an increasing frequency of natural disasters, and the loss of biodiversity are just some of the dire consequences of our rapidly changing planet. Nigeria has not seen much discourse on the pressing issue of climate change and its effects on the environment.

This training and edit-a-thon aim to bring attention to the importance of addressing climate change and protecting the environment. By raising awareness and encouraging a shift in attitudes towards environmental concerns, we hope to amplify the voices of individuals in Nigeria through increased online visibility and participation in creating and editing contents.

Context

A two-day Edit-a-thon will be organized to create and edit articles that are climate change and environment focused on English Wikipedia and Wikidata.

This project will bring new and existing editors together to contribute (create and edit articles) to articles that are about Nigeria's climate change and environment on English Wikipedia and Wikidata.

Fallout

• Creating and improving Wikipedia articles and Wikidata items on climate change and environment related contents about Nigeria for global visibility
• Recruit new editors who are advocates of climate change
• Train existing editors on how to contribute to climate change contents on Wikipedia and Wikidata

At the end of this project, the following targets are expected to have been meet;

• Number of Participants - 30
• Number of new editors - 7
• Number of Wikipedia articles and Wikidata Items added - 150+
