The Edu- Wiki Podcast is basically an audio storytelling podcast that shall be able to tell the stories of different communities, and these stories shall be captured with the aim to inform, educate and uplift the work and voices of the various Wikimedia communities that use Wikimedia in enhancing education in their societies

Goals and Objectives

Point out communities their work, challenges and local solutions
Uplift the work, impact challenges of the various communities
Network virtually with the communities via knowing their work and relating to challenges and methodologies for solving some of these challenges
Point put to new members the opportunities and human interest stories of different Wikimedia communities and how they can be motivated to be a part of a very supportive and yet solution centered Wikimedia community
(These are tentative objectives ad can be improved according to the general goals and objectives of the Wikimedia in Education)

Target

This podcast shall target Both the Wikimedia communities and the newcomers or interested Wikimedians, in schools or communities to either build more interest understand how Wikimedia can be used for education

How

This. Shall be an entirely audio podcast, that shall be informed of either scripted interviews or unscripted conversations with the target guests (communities) that shall share their stories with communities about the work as Wikimedia communities.

Why

Podcasts have recently received an increase in listenership to over 3million subscribers and listeners, as much as it is a new storytelling medium but with a high rise of follower-ship that shall be able to capture a vast number of people, and as an organization like the Wikimedia in Education, would love to have their content not only limited to the generic mediums of blogs but also vlogs and podcasts

Types of the podcasts The podcasts shall be in vast types depending on the targeted audience and the guest but audio documentaries, interviews and conversations shall be part of the ways the podcasts shall be delivered

What the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Program is all about?: The Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Program is one of the Wikimedia Foundation’s flagship teacher training programs. The whole idea is to help both educators and students to develop vital media and information literacy skills for the 21st century, And this also includes;
- Understanding how information is produced
- How to access and evaluate content online
- How to understand biases and knowledge gaps in the information they consume. In 2020, Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom was piloted in three countries: Bolivia, Morocco, and the Philippines. Today we have seen participation from different other countries across the world and have proven to be a very essential program highly impactful. On this podcast episode we had a very interesting conversation about the program with Melissa Guadalupe Huertas. Are you wondering what the program is all about and the opportunities it offers? Melissa has explained it all in this podcast. Melissa Guadalupe Huertas serves as a Senior Education Program Officer at the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that hosts Wikipedia and its sister projects. Her work supports education actors and free-knowledge advocates with resources and strategies that help integrate Wikimedia projects as pedagogical tools. She has over 10 years of experience leading education initiatives in Latin America focused on education for community development, leadership, and cross-cultural collaboration. She’s a former Chevening Scholar and holds an MA in Education, Gender and International Development from University College London. Bukola James share her experience about her participation in the Reading Wikipedia in the classroom program: Today in this episode, we will be having a very interesting conversation with an Aluminia of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom. Our guest for this podcast is Bukola James she will be sharing her experience on her participation in the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program. Bukola James is a librarian training at the Kwara State University Malete and is also currently a virtual intern for IFLA-BSLISE. She has great experience leading different Wikimedia projects in GLAM institutions in Nigeria. In 2021, she became the first-ever certified trainer of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program in Nigeria. Aside from volunteering for the Wikimedia community, she is also a member of the Creative Commons GLAM resources working group. She is also a Media Publicist for the National Association of Library and Information Science Students in Nigeria and an SDG advocate -SDGs 4, 8, & 12.
