Affiliations Committee/Resolutions/Recognition of Wikimedia Community User Group Kenya

Whereas:
  1. Recognizing Wikimedia User Groups is the responsibility of the Affiliations Committee;
  2. Wikimedia Community User Group Kenya has submitted an application for recognition, which has been reviewed by the Affiliations Committee;
  3. The scope of the group, which can be found on their meta page, "seeks to mobilize and organize a new generation of volunteers in Kenya, who are passionate about Free Knowdge, for meaningful engagement in the Wikimedia Community.

Their focus will be on English (EnWiki) and Swahili Wikipedia (swwiki).They have been involved in edit-a-thons, photowalks, trainning new editors, Movement Strategy Discussions, Wikimania, Wikiindaba and we plan to continue to leverage on these activities to contribute to the growth of Wikimedia projects in Kenya.

Collaboration is also a value we hold dear, that has contributed a great deal to the growth of this group. We've been beneficiaries of mentorship and the goodwill of the Wikimedia Community User Group Tanzania and the Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda and we plan to leverage on collaborating with communities within the East Africa Region and the movement at large to achieve our goals in line with the Movemeny Strategy 2030."; and

Application Review
With regard to Wikimedia Community User Group Kenya's application for user group status and criteria:
  • At least 3 active Wikimedia editors: CRITERION MET
  • Focus advances Wikimedia: CRITERION MET
  • Mission aligned with Wikimedia Foundation: CRITERION MET
  • Compliance with naming guidelines and trademark policy: CRITERION MET
  • Information about group published on a Wikimedia wiki: CRITERION MET
  • Plans for activities or efforts to advance Wikimedia projects: CRITERION MET
  • Allows new members: CRITERION MET
  • Two designated contacts for Wikimedia Foundation: CRITERION MET


It is the opinion of the Affiliations Committee that the group meets the requirements for Wikimedia User Group status.
Therefore be it resolved that Wikimedia Community User Group Kenya is recognized as a Wikimedia User Group for a one-year, renewable period, effective on June 20, 2022.
