Affiliations Committee/Reports/2020

October 2020 edit

As of October 10th, 14 Wikimedia Chapters/Thematic Organizations (34%) and 33 active User Groups (27%) were not compliant with required reporting. Low compliance levels are typical for this time of the financial year, as this is when the majority of chapters are due for reporting, but numbers are also slightly elevated by the current COVID-19 pandemic. For the details on compliance status, view the Affiliate Status Report page.

Applications for Recognition edit

The Affiliations Committee works with new groups seeking recognition as a Wikimedia User Group.

Applications for Recognition edit

The Affiliations Committee works with new groups seeking recognition as a Wikimedia User Group.

Last quarter, the Affiliations Committee received ten new User Group applications and approved 7 during the quarter. No applications were declined, and none were withdrawn by applicants last quarter. There are 14 user group applications in progress and/or under review at the time of this report, compared to the average of 15.

The Affiliations Committee also works with user groups to review their bylaws and application materials for the purpose of seeking recognition as a chapter or thematic organization. The committee does this in order to assist more developed user groups in communicating how they meet the current guidelines for recognition and to determine its recommendation to the board with regard to recognition. Due to the sudden departure of their Chair in December, the Affiliations Committee is stalled on communicating some recognitions and on reviewing a few user group applications in the pipeline for chapter and thematic organization recognition review.

In addition to applications pipelines, the committee has also been attending to 8 affiliate conflict situations, a bit more than their average of 6 due to ongoing issues.
