TAMPA, Florida (February 14, 2005)—The Wikimedia Foundation announced that it will hold the first annual Wikimania Conference in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, August 4 - 8, 2005.
"Wikimania 2005: The First International Wikimedia Conference" will run from August 4 to August 8 at the Haus der Jugend in Frankfurt. In addition to hosting conference activities, the Haus der Jugend will also be providing lodging for the many people attending the conference from around the world.
The event will feature speakers from Wikipedia and from guest speakers. The program will include a mixture of presentations and workshops by various speakers.
The conference schedule begins with pre-conference festivities the evening of Thursday, August 4th, followed by a day of workshops on Friday. The main convention will be on Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7, featuring keynote presentations by Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales. Additional informal events will wrap up the event on Monday, August 8.
Organizers are planning a media competition featuring photography, audio, and video with the winners announced at the conference.
