Activities in public libraries edit

Libraries are cautiously looking into the possibilities of resuming IRL periodic Wiki meetings. Because of Corona, these have been put on hold. We are looking for new possibilities to continue these activities. There are activities with Wikishootme in Egmond in August and September, later in the year maybe also in Tilburg. The volunteers that are active in Tilburg will also explore possibilities to join the standard courses offered by the library, where a small part of the Wikimedia introduction is given. For example, a course on photography could include sharing via Wikimedia. In Hengelo, we will start online sessions in October, where we will learn how an article is constructed based on highlighted articles.

Dutch Wikimedian receives a Wikimedia lifetime achievement award edit

Lodewijk Gelauff has been honoured by the Wikimedia Foundation for his outstanding contribution to Wikipedia, and to free access to knowledge in general. He is the first person to receive a Wikimedia lifetime achievement award. Gelauff is particularly honoured as one of the initiators of Wiki Loves Monuments, the world's largest international photo competition whose aim is to have a photo of as many monuments as possible available for use on Wikipedia. The award was presented by Jimmy Wales on Sunday 15 August at Wikimania, the annual gathering of the global Wikimedia movement. The press release was well received by the Dutch media. Some national newspapers wrote about it and public radio also paid attention to it through an interview with Lodewijk.
