Abstract:

Wikimedia pages have been vandalized by presumed new and untrained Wikimedians who would have been groomed or tutored via the community peer learning strategy. Peer learning is a form of teaching and learning strategy where learners (newbies) by design teach other students( newbies) formally and informally.Peer learning is a valuable tool for any organization wanting to improve workers and support continuous learning. Peer learning helps everyone get on the same page about the next steps. Peer learning has numerous credits: each person is updated about what they need to do, it fosters growth and development, it builds collaboration and easy diversification, it creates a healthy learning community, it leads to effective teamwork, it improves individual's editing skills and builds strong community ties. Peer learning can take these forms;discussion and debate, role play, student's presentations, think pair share, experiential learning, Inquiry-based learning and others. Wikimedia Movement strategy (2030) aims at making Wikimedia easily accessible ,free and open knowledge to all by ushering in authenticated and valuable sources. How would the newbies learn devoid of strategies ?

How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region?

By the end of the lecture, the participants would learn how to incorporate Peer learning strategies to build a knowledgeable Wiki editors. Participants will learn how to build a strong collaboration and diversification using peer -to- peer learning strategy. It will help to bridge content vandalism among Wiki editors especially among Africans.
