A WikiDegree would be a bachelor of arts degree consisting of approximately 30 courses created by the general public, just like Wikipedia entries are.

This is a proposal for a new Wikimedia sister project.

The #1 criterion for selecting topics to be covered in the WikiDegree: Is the content highly likely to help a wide range of students prepare to live the life well-led?

I have, to date, created 24 course titles, each consisting of a number of modules/subtopics.

Course creators would be encouraged to use "lecturettes," video, an online forum for student interaction, and especially, immersive simulations.

To receive credit for completing a module, the student would have to pass a sophisticated multiple-choice exam testing far more than fact regurgitation.

When WikiDegree reaches a critical mass of high-quality courses, I will invite a major accrediting agency to accredit the WikiDegree.

An overview of the approach, including a list of the 24 courses and subtopics are at http://martynemko.blogspot.com/2010/10/utopia-u-my-blueprint-for-model.html.
