Assistance in project and event planning

If you would like to implement a project idea or need help with a project, the German-language Wikimedia organizations are there to help you in planning and organizing.

Offer

There is typically a variety of organizational tasks – whether assistance is needed in organizing a community workshop (e.g. WikiProject or jury meetings), an edit-a-thon, a competition, or an outreach event. The three Wikimedia organizations can assist you, for example, in booking hotels and catering, loaning or purchasing required material and technology, as well as in preparing a project or financing plan. In addition, any necessary arrangements can be made with other involved Wikimedia organizations and support can be provided in public relations or in collaborating with other organizations. When requested, we also help you to work out your idea – whether you want to undertake a project for Wikisource, but do not know where to start, or you want to make a project you have already planned more sustainable.

Approach

Simply contact the Wikimedia organization in the country where you reside with a description of your idea or your project and explain the kind of support you require. Be sure to bear in mind the country-specific instructions below. Should you need to fill in a project or financial plan, the Wikimedia organizations can assist in completing it or putting it together. Please note that certain things like the booking of accommodations for groups often require longer lead times. Even if an idea is not entirely worked out or individual aspects are unclear, the sooner you contact your Wikimedia organization, the more time there will be for jointly implementing it.

The only prerequisite for support is that you are active in the Wikimedia projects. This is usually determined based on the right to vote in de-Wikipedia. When organizing meetups or workshops, it is helpful to already have gained experience with similar events in a Wikimedia context. In cases where the criteria for the right to vote in de-Wikipedia are not met, support is possible in some instances if, for example, there is obvious relevance to the topic in question or significant experience has already been acquired. If you are uncertain or have any further questions, simply contact your Wikimedia organization.

Please send an e-mail to community@wikimedia.de.

If the planned costs of the project exceed 500 euros, a written project proposal is necessary. You can find additional information on this page (German only). Of course, we’re happy to help you with any questions that may arise.

Documentation: For group projects, please add a project page where the participants can register and the program and results are presented. For this purpose, you can use the template de:Vorlage:Community-Veranstaltung.

The support guidelines of Wikimedia Deutschland apply.

Documentation

Please tell us and others about your experiences, for example on a subpage of your user page and link them here (in German only). By doing so, you will on the one hand help the Wikimedia organizations to understand the benefits of the support initiative; on the other, your experiences can be helpful to others.
