Remote loading / caching question

I'm sure this isn't the right place to ask this question, but I saw that you recently contributed to the talk page of live mirrors so I figured you could probably guide me. I've done a lot of research here and on Wikipedia for policies on remote loading of wiki content, and see that it's a big no-no. I'm thinking of developing an application that will screen scrape a page once from wikipedia and then cache it as html locally. Yes, technically this is remote loading, but the burden on Wikipedia's hardware should be minimal, and I won't be scraping the whole site, just a few hundred pages.

I know the right thing to do is to set up my own Mediawiki installation etc., but that's a huge hurdle and quite resource intensive, considering that I won't be scraping very many pages very often. So, I guess what I'm asking is: how strict is the "no remote loading" policy? Is it only enforced against people who actually interfere with Wikipedia's service, or is it ruthless? I certainly don't want to piss anyone off (because I love Wikipedia) and I don't want to get blocked, but I also don't want to make more work for myself than I have to. Hopefully you see where I'm coming from. If you can give me some guidance, I'd appreciate it. Intently 17:58, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

See User talk:Intently.

You are awesome. It's hard to get information sometimes, so thanks a bunch. (FYI, it's a web-based app, I'll put a link on my talk page when it's ready to be released.) Intently 23:52, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Minh, could you take a look at Requests for permissions#Nguyễn Cường@vi.wiki? Vinhtantran 02:44, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

See Requests for permissions.

Would you mind working on the update of the Donation form? (old version in vi / new version in en) If so, the workspace is at Donate and you can start working on the vi translation by clicking the "missing" link next to "vi/Tiếng Việt". Thanks! Cbrown1023 talk 21:13, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Minh, can you proofreading my translation there? I hope you have more respects here to review and put it to ready state :). Vinhtantran 11:11, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you both Minh and Vinhtantran for helping translate. :-) Once you have reviewed it, just set the status to "ready" and/or leave me a note on my talk page. Cbrown1023 talk 14:43, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again to both of you, I've published it. :-) (wmf:Donate/vi, wmf:Donate-options/vi, wmf:Donate-thanks/vi) Cbrown1023 talk 20:50, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
See User talk:Cbrown1023.
I'm sure, which font would you prefer? Also, we need "Projects of the Wikimedia Foundation" for wmf:Template:OurProjects-vi (used on wmf:Donate-thanks/vi). Cbrown1023 talk 21:08, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Translation

Would you mind doing a quick review of this translation for the Fundraiser? If it's okay, you change the status to |vi |done. Thanks! :-) Cbrown1023 talk 22:32, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please review it again, and read the talk page there. BTW, what do you think about the advice here that we shouldn't translate "Wikimedia Foundation"? Vinhtantran 18:09, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Language detection JavaScript

There's an ongoing discussion here regarding possible re-designing http://wikimedia.org a bit. Somebody asked about whether it would be possible to show a certain language based on IP. Could you take a look if you have a spare moment? Thanks! --MZMcBride 21:31, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
